MIKE DUFFY BACKYARD BRAWL PROMO VIDEO!
I miss my comedy group.
Guys not being at this show is really hard. Please go and tell me what happens word for word. If you don’t think that you can do that feasibly, maybe it would be helpful to bring friends. Maybe you will need a lot of friends to band together and take care of different chunks of words from the show to tell back to me as a verbal transcript that I can relive after it happens. You might need a lot of people to accomplish this. That’s okay with me. I would love nothing more.

Thanks to everyone who came out to support us! And to everyone who came out to support someone else, or no one at all, and ended up supporting us, either out of sincerity or drunkenness, thank you as well! If you lost a bet, came to UCB, voted for us, and left, thank you, and thank you to whoever set such strange parameters to your bet. You are both gentlemen. And of course, thank you to anyone who may have miscounted any ballots in our favor.

Registering for a UCB Class
I had a very frustrating experience trying to register for a UCB improv class today. I wrote an email and posted on the UCB Message boards. Here’s what I wrote:
I started taking classes about four years ago, and have been a long time supporter and student of UCB Theater. I have been trying to get into an open UCB 401 class for a very long time now. After finally getting a job, I was restricted to searching for weekend classes. Today, finally, a Sunday 401 class was posted. I waited and started reloading the page incessantly starting 10 minutes before it was posted. The server was clogged, and I couldn’t load the page. I kept trying over and over again, and finally got to the payment page, where, now, a half hour later, I keep getting an error message that says “Unable to fetch open slots:” I’m (perhaps too pessimistically) assuming that this means the class filled up while I was trying to load the pages necessary to pay.
This is extremely frustrating. I’m not sure what I can do. I’m on a super fast connection at my office. I understand tons of others are trying to register for classes. I have been trying to get into an open class whenever one is posted for almost two years now, which will soon mean (or maybe already means) that I might have to re-take classes. I can’t say that for that entire time I was privy to the RSS feeds and the exact times that classes would post, but I also can’t say today’s experience hasn’t happened before either.
I am doing everything in my power to take classes at UCB, and to give UCB money. It feels like I am unable to do so. I have a friend who shared this same experience with me today over IM, and is similarly frustrated. I assume we are not alone. I don’t mean to just complain for no reason, or just get angry. I just want to know what I can do, or, if there’s anything anyone can do to help me.
All this means a lot to me, as I’m sure it does to many others. In college I subletted apartments in New York just so I could take UCB classes in the summers between semesters. I don’t think that makes me special. But I have always done whatever I can to get this valuable training and experience. I hope to continue to do so.

I am not posting this to make UCB look bad, or out of anger. It’s no secret that registering for classes there is no easy task. It’s extremely popular for good reason. I have nothing but the utmost respect for UCB and its training program. Which is why this has been so frustrating. I’m not looking to start any kind of movement or anything here. If you are registered in the UCB message boards, I’d love for you to reply to the post. If you’re not registered, this is not one of those things where I’m asking that everyone rise up and express your shared anger at the man. UCB is not the man. This is not a good enough reason to register for the message boards.
UPDATE: Erik Tanouye responded to my post with a very helpful explanation and information about the issue, and alerted me to a spot that had since opened up in the class, and I got in! This is the best possible way any frustrating situation can turn out. Hooray.
